Border Union & The Scottish Borders

19 – 21st June

What a lovely weekend we had, so much so, that I felt it deserved a page of it’s own!!

It all started at Midnight on the 19th June, when myself with Isla and Eula were collected by Jacky Mitchell with Seamus, Holly and Elin for our overnight trip to Kelso in the Scottish Borders. Sharing the driving we had a very easy run up to Scotland arriving at the venue at just after 6.30 am on Sunday morning. Neither of us had been to this show before, and we were very pleasantly surprised by the lovely venue, the ease of parking, right by the benches,(unheard of at most venues) and the excellent layout of the showground.

Our Judge for the day was Barbara Ganarin (Berkenbar). Judging started at 9, and apart from a short cloudy spell the sun came out and shone all day – prefect!

We had a good day, with Eula being 2nd in Junior and Isla VHC in open bitch – which I was really pleased with as she was stood behind four Champions.
Jacky had a good day, Seamus 2nd in Open Dog and receiving the Res. DCC, Elin won puppy bitch and Best Puppy in Breed, and Holly was third in a lovely Post Graduate Bitch Class. So all of our dogs were in the cards as they say.

After the judging, a wander around the showground for some shopping and an all important ice cream! The diet went well and truly out of the window !

After packing up the van with dogs and belongings we went into Kelso for a coffee, then it was off to Selkirk for our evening meal at a B&B.

We arrived at our B&B at about 5.30, what a beautiful place – and so dog friendly, the land lady directed us to one of their fields where the dogs could go and let of steam, which they all did as only Springers can. The one thing she forgot to mention was that it had a fair quantity of sheep poo – which again the dogs loved – some rolled in it , some ate it, and the good ones just ignored it.

Back to the B&B for a quick shower and then dinner – which was a lovely 3 course meal and very welcome.

The B&B is set on a 400 hectacre farm which has it’s own loch, so after dinner we took the dogs and headed off in search of it. We found it nestling amongst woodland which the dogs just loved – Seamus and Holly did manage to find the loch as well, but we managed to keep the others out – mainly by screaming at them – haha! Had it been earlier in the day, then we would have loved to have let them all in, because it was lovely. Still we all had a nice walk through the woods.

We headed back to the B&B, and an early night.

Monday morning, and the dogs had a run in the garden of the B&B, and we had a lovely breakfast before leaving for home.

We came out of Scotland via Jedbrugh, which was a different route to that which we went, but that’s not unusual for Jacky and I – we are known for our ‘diversions’.

We stopped at the view point on the Scotland/England border and took some photo’s, and even had the company of a Scottish piper – who was really good, and indulged us in our spot of playing ‘tourist’

The rest of the journey home was good and we arrived back at 4.30, unfortunately for Jacky she then had to go straight to work as she was on a night shift. I dumped all of the stuff from the weekend and took the two girls for a nice run in the park.

Below are some photos, which I hope you will enjoy.
