As our first wedding anniversary approaches, we decided to get our new puppy as our anniversary present to each other. So, after contacting the Southern English Springer Society’s puppy line, we made contact with Heather Chynoweth of the Spaggas Kennel. Heather informed us that she had a litter that was a week old, and that we would be welcome to go and visit…. the story of Woodspa follows…
24th May
Today we went to see the litter they were three weeks old. Nine puppies in all, two were black/white/tan, a dog and a bitch; there were also black/white and liver/white.
14th June
The puppies are six weeks old today, so we went back to the breeders, to pick our puppy. We chose the B/W/T dog and called him Harry. His pedigree name is Spaggas Tristar.
25th June
Today we collected Harry and brought him home. He is lovely, and we
want to thank Heather & Trevor for letting us have him.
30th October
We returned today to Harry’s breeder and took him with us, so that
Heather could show us how to prepare him for the show ring, as his first
show is next week.
4th November
Harry and I entered our first show today – East Kent Canine Society Open Show at Maidstone Kent. Our judge was Sue Pudney and we were in the puppy class. I was a bit nervous and not really sure what to do, so I followed the other exhibitor in the class. Harry’s turn came and the judge went over him, and then asked us to move – well, that was a laugh, he went round on two legs – truly a Springer, and we came 2nd.
10th November
Today we went to the Midland English Springer Championship show, which is held in Doncaster, Yorkshire. The judge was Jenny Miller (Feorlig), Harry was in Minor Puppy Dog. He still moves a little erratic but the judge was very good and told me what to do, and let me do it again. Today we came 3rd and qualified for Crufts, and Harry's father, Gundrifs Final Round was awarded the Reserve Challenge Certificate.
13th December
At the Ladies Kennel Association Championship show, under judger Joan Dempsey, Harry was 4th in Minor Puppy Dog.
